Hard as concrete, but smooth and beautiful as the Ocean!
This seems the right definition for this imposing residence which is the creation of Rolf Ockert Architect and is wears the name “Clovelly House”.
The Clovelly House project was a new concept of bringing the ocean closer to the people or bringing the people closer to the ocean. With an amazing ocean front view, this could be the perfect place for those who just adore the ocean and want to be next to it day by day. Rolf Ockert brought this residence to life by offering it some details that matter a lot.
Rolf Ockert has lived and worked in the Europe, Asia and Australia, and these things helped him a lot in his career. He “draws a wide range of visual, practical and design experience”, things which are they key points to create a project like this.
The main attraction point of this house is the ocean view that gives it a priceless value. The amazing view lies to the South, while the sun still circles around the North as well. “To focus on its unique location while getting natural light inside the house was designed around a central void with a row of large operable skylights above it, angled to the North.”- that’s what Ralf Ockert said.
The Clovelly House was previously a ramshackle cottage, but it still had some pretty amazing views over the cliff rocks across the bay, but now the external wall opened up an expansive open water views, in addition to the more intimate bay views. However, the sights are simply awesome and you will definitely feel great when watching the sun set, being “swallowed” by the water. These things recharges your batteries for the things that will follow up next, for any challenges to projects that are right ahead of you.
If we are talking about the colors of the house you will notice a lot of grays and powerful materials used, like concrete. Well, they are especially used to protect the interior against the Southerly wind, a dominant force, bringing salt from the ocean, which can affect the walls of the house, but this won’t happen, not when you are living in a Rolf Ockert design and creation. These are small, but significant details that count so much for such a big project.
This house was designed unusually, without any opening windows or decks facing South. Instead large frameless floor-to-ceiling double glazed elements allow uninterrupted views over the Pacific and allow a more intimate connection than framed openable glazing elements would have allowed. Also, an outdoor deck is attached to the side of the living area, creating the perfect place for any outdoor activities with friends or just some relaxation time that will allow you to disconnect from your daily routine.
The materials and colors used in designing this house had to be suitable to the harsh salt spray environment. That’s why you will notice the strong raw concrete which is used on both the exterior, but also the interior. The outside floors and walls, as well as the interior benches are finished in the same earthy gray stone, but the pallette of colors is much richer than that due to the blues and greens in the sky and Ocean, the grays and reds in the rocks resulting a wonderful place to spend your entire life in!
